Default Encyclia cochleata

Hi All!

My Encyclia cochleata is blooming like crazy again... it flowered all summer last year before making two HUGE bulbs during the winter. Now I am really enjoying that long winter's worth of growth! It happily thrives in all conditions, and is one of my favorites! Enjoy!

World Checklist of Selected Plant Families: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Correct name can be found in the link above, I will have to keep my eye out for one of these.

It's gorgeous

I have one which like yours has two spikes of different hights, both with 3 or 4 flowers. I just love it, I only bought it a few weeks back so I'm hoping I can care for it.

I find the buds/flowers on this one just pop open. I never see them half open, I look one time and it's a bud, next time I look it's a flower with seeming no warning. I've still not worked out how they go from one to the other.

I always think that, or a squid. When I refer to it with my hubby I always say 'the squid plant' so he knows which I mean.
