Hi Aceetobe

I have already selfed it and will keep seed for you. I will also out-cross it as I have another plant in spike and close to opening. Thanks for offering to self Schweinfurthianum for me.

Hi Warren & Susanne

I bought it from Orquideas Tropicals, and Dr Gaspar Silvera the owner sells it as under that name, so thats what I have been calling it. Various other authorities seem to use Oerstedella too. To be honest all the politics of names gives me a headache. I wish one name could be chosen and stuck with, but as we know that is unlikely.

I have only ever seen this listed for sale in the USA and EU under Oerstedella.

It looks more like a Vanda than a cattleya-alliance plant. I'd not heard of this one until now.

Amazing looking flower!! Is this species normally so blue in color? I don't know anything about it. Ive actually got a purpurata blooming if you want some seed. Here are last year's pics. Laelia purpurata 6-16-2009 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
