Thanks everyone. I may have been a little hasty posting the bloom photos because the sepals are still evolving (unfolding). I'll post more photos when the blooms fully develop.

That looks like something I have blooming and don't know what it is. Is it like a banana orchid or something? Got a picture of the whole plant? A friend gave it to me and it sorta looks like that except mine is more orangey. Anyway, that is very very nice.

Here ya go Swamper. The pseudobulbs on this one mature rapidly. They have a compact growth habit and are on average 8" in length. The spike is about 3 1/2'. Flowers are about 3" and it looks like there's gonna be a dozen of them. The sepals have been changing (folding and unfolding) depending on the time of day/lighting.

That's it then (what I have). Are there different varieties or would mine be a noid since I don't have a tag?

Swamper,

These Myrmeco-whatevers used to be classified as a Schomburgkia. I purchased mine from an Ebay vendor. It was listed and tagged as a Schom. thompsoniana but after researching I found that the flower on what I purchased doesn't match most descriptions but it does match a few. This leaves me a little bewildered. I truly wonder if mine is a hybrid.

There are different species and hybrids, different colors...some big, and some small. Try searching Schomburgkia and then try the new classification Myrmecophila or Myrmecophilia (I've seen the name spelled both ways). They're commonly referred to as cigar orchids too. Good luck!
