Cattleya aclandiae blooming--finally!
After growing this one successfully for several years, but without getting a single bloom from it, I finally got it to flower. I think what worked was keeping it warm over the winter and increasing the light levels (I had been growing it intermediate, especially during the winter months, and giving moderate, instead of very bright, light). Very large blooms for such a small plant.

Wow!
I'm not really a Cattleya lover but I have to admit that this is very beautiful!
Thanks for sharing and congrats!

Wow, Steve! That's one spectacular flower. Aclandiae has been on my list for a while now.
Gotta ask the question: Is it fragrant? It looks like it smells good.

Carl, it's only been open a couple of days and I haven't smelled anything yet. But as Steve (the other Steve--the one with the GOOD weather!)
mentioned, it's supposed to be fragrant. Hopefully I'll be able to give a better report within the next couple of days.

HIGHLY fragrant!! The scent should happen the first day it is fully open, especially when the sun is strong.

Congrats on finally getting blooms! It was a long wait but very worth it, the blooms are gorgeous. I'm happy you managed to figure out what this one needs to bloom. It's always very rewarding to finally figure it out.
