Are mini-catts fragrant?
Hi friends! I've been reading up and looking online at mini-catts... beautiful! Are most of these fragrant like the full size catts are known to be?
If I was to get a one, is there any special care you would recommend? Right now I have two cattleyas and although I'm not sure if I'm giving them enough light, one is sprouting a happy little new something (of which I'm not really sure what it is... a new leaf? a?
Thanks all!

You're "happy little new something" is a new growth or pseudobulb. As it matures it will grow leaves and look like the others. You're plant looks very healthy.
I'm not familiar with mini-catts.

Some mini catts are fragrant and some aren't just like the standards. Is there a particular one you're interested in?

Most of mine have no fragrance at all but some do have one, like Joann says above it depends on which one you pick.

I have c.walkeriana. They are suppose to be very fragrant. c. Nobilior is also a fragrant mini, but its harder to grow. i recomend c. walkeriana. good amount of selection and the bloom is amazing. There are alot of people who specialize in growing walkeriana. They are very interesting.

Most of the ones with Sophronitis in the background will not be fragrant. AKA most of the red mini-catts.
Also, many made with rupiculous laelias will not be fragrant.
Unfortunately, two of the most important plants for mini-catts are Sophronitis coccinea and Laelia briegeri.
On the plus side, C. walkeriana figures into mini-catt breeding significantly, and is highhhhhly fragrant.

Look for Lc. Aloha Case. It's a pretty popular hybrid that's got a lot of C. walkeriana in its genes, and it's very fragrant. C. schilleriana and C. aclandiae are both small-growing fragrant species too.

Hi friends..... k, this will sound strange I am sure, but here goes. I would like to get a mini-cattleya for my step-father who is Hawaiian, so in order for it to be a gift that would mean the most to him, I would like to get it from a Hawaiian nursery.
Also, do mini-catts always say mini in the title? They have some limited space, and I worry that I could get him a full size without intending to.
thanks my friends!
