The following is a quote I looked up in The Cattleyas and Their Relatives Volume II by Carl Withner on Laelia anceps. In this book on page 32 he is quoting the Gardeners' Chronicle for 1887, p413:
"This orchid is always met with on the borders of the virgin forrest...during the rainy season, these plants are daily drenched by torrents of rain of which they experience the full force, often for five consecutive hours, and are thoroughly wet throughout the night. About 6 am, a sharp and fresh wind coming from the highest peaks of the Cordilleras, may of which are capped with perpetual snow, begins to dry the plants--a work which the burning sun completes--pitilessly shining on them for several hours, until the daily storm drenches them afresh. Under these conditions Laelia anceps grows with extraordinary vigor..."

Hrmmm...try doing THAT in your greenhouse or kitchen window!!

This is part of why I've been recommending a few hours of full sun.
My anceps has graduated out to the patio where I've been acclimating it. After a couple weeks, it's now taking about 2hours a day of full sun and loving it.
