Default Are DARK shoots a problem?

Hi everyone,
I noticed lately that on mostly my epicatts, brassavola and catts that the new shoots are almost black. Is this normal? They are in different locations, and not in direct sun. One of them started out black and then switched to dark green once it got going. Another one is not doing much and has 3 on one plant, but they also look a tiny bit shriveled.

Any input would be appreciated.
Helen

No idea. It'll be interesting to see what people say.

On the catt alliances that I have, the new growths start a dark red from the sun.

Some of mine start a darkish green then there are others that start off a purplish red color.

As for your case post some pics so we can get a better look at what you are talking about.

If you look at the dark area on the cane itself, you will see the same dark colour as on the old roots. The one is on the cane extending off to the left side and the other one is located directly above the middle root (of 3 roots). Look higher up away from the roots. It's the dark area on the green cane.

ok - if I'm looking at the right thing - I think the new growth started, but died. How long have they been this way? When did they first emerge?

That's the thing, these are the newest ones, and they start off black...last summer I had it in a south window, and I moved it to the east window this year because obviously it was getting way too much light.
But it did produce a new shoot last summer but it didn't do well and the leaves yellowed and dropped off. This is why I'm worried that perhaps something has gone wrong, but I thought that with the new roots that a green shoot would come up, but this is like the 4th eye this year and it is not correcting itself.

I only water once the mix almost dries out and water does not get into the new growth area.
