Ofcourse Im not really hooked yet. I have yet to own a blue orchid . If I should ever actually get to bloom one, I think I would go crazy!

I don't want you to go crazy. So, it's good you didn't buy one.

Thanks everyone

Shadow, my media is a mix of 1 part of each:

cattleya mix
phal mix
lava rock (medium)
Dyna-rock (medium)

I use this mix for all of my orchids but I am experimenting with just lava rock. I made the decision to just use my normal mix for this 14" clay pot because I want to be able to lift the pot. Most of my orchids are near the vanda room so I have to have a mix that drains quick.

You are so lucky to be able to find crushed lava rock. We have only big pieces for fish tanks over here. I tried to crush them on smaller pieces by myself, but it is pretty hard and I've also got a lot of volcanic dust as a result. So, I use it only as additive to my paph mix.
What are you trying to grow in just lava rock?

Shadow,

I am trying to grow some of my catts in just lava right now. I really would like to use a media that doesn't break down.

It is good, when the medium is not breaking down. But what about the salt build? You will have to change it anyway. Or you have extremely soft water?
