I have a question about one of my newly acquired cattleyas. It's Blc. Sanyang Ruby "Chi Mei" and I've had it for about three months now. I bought it out of flower but it was pushing up a new PB. Now the new lead is in it's final phase of development but I'm noticing there is no sheath. Now I have heard there are some catt types that will flower sans sheath but it looks as though the previous flowering growth is showing remnants of a sheath.
Firstly, not all new growths produce flowers, a new growth without a sheath CAN produce flowers, sometimes a change in the plants conditions can stop it from flowering even with a sheath. If that was my plant I would repot it as the weather warms up and give it a chance to get use to it's new home.
thanks buckie
so do you think it is possible for this new growth to flower without a sheath even though the previous growth flowered with a sheath?
do you think it looks like it needs repotted? i was planning on leaving him in there for another year atleast (for some reason I'm excellent with orchids UNTIL repotting time comes)
