....Or whatever you want to call it. This is this beauty's first bloom, and wouldn't ya know it....I accidentally broke off the bloom right after I took this picture. The spike was kind of weak at the base from hanging downward. I tried to prop it up for better pics, and.....snap! That was all it took. Anyway, this is mounted on my "Species Tree" in the middle of my greenhouse. About 18" below it sits my Enc. cordigera, October in your OB calendars, which will be blooming in a couple more days. I was hoping to get a picture of both blooming at the same time....oh well, maybe next year!

i love them, whatever you call em, the digbyanas are some of my faves! good photoing, but too bad you knocked it off....now you get to have it inside, lol.....good growing!

Is the wood of your "species tree" anything in particular? Are there some woods that the plants would take to more readily than others? I love the idea.

I believe it was just a branch off an old oak tree. It sat in my yard for about a year, until it completely dried out. The bark just fell right off at that point. Here's a few pics:
