smweaver. Very nice blooms. I believe that C amethystoglossa does not produce more than 12 ... maybe 15 flowers per spike. Perhaps your source meant that there can be 2-3 dozen flowers on the entire plant (on 3 spikes?). That can happen on a large plant.
[Isurus: I never take pics at the shows, but I bet catwalker808 and hawaiiansunshine have some pics of the full grown plants. I would PM them.]
Isurus.
Ironically, I don't take photos of our plants at shows either. The natural lighting's better in our nursery. But I usually only take photos of the flowers.
If anyone would like to see what one of our large plants looks like, I have attached my photo of the same plant Mathias showed. It is not our plant. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe it is one that I sold in Japan years ago. A number of my friends there also said so. The owner has, of course, grown it much bigger and bloomed it exceptionally well. Anyway, that's how a very large blooming plant looks.
Our C amethystoglossa line has several types. However, people familiar with them can recognize the distinctive look of the flowers (size, full shapes, coloring, spotting, substance). They are quite different in how they grow and bloom. The plant size is not suitable for everyone, but they do start blooming quite nicely at about 18 - 24". The plants do reach about 3-1/2 feet. The plants may be large for many people to grow; however, they are a spectacular sight when in bloom.
