Jasen, it's wonderful
I've had it on my wish list for a couple of years but heard it was a bit difficult to grow. Is it?

I consider a ghost orchid difficult to grow....this is just another Cattleya. It grows just like the rest of 'em. Just another "orchid myth", I assume. I have another one that I have grown from seedling, but it's not quite bloom size yet. It seems to grow pretty normal, also.

Jasen.
Good growing.
Are you certain that your plant is a C dowiana? My guess is that it may be a hybrid. The flower shape is entirely different from any C. dowianas I have seen.
The dowiana side lobes should be trumpet-shaped and should hood the column. Sepals & petals should be much longer and slender. And the flower & lip colors do not seem to match the rosita strain, the aurea range or anything in between.
That's just my own observation.

Looks like a nice flower, but I agree with Catwalker on this one. Are you sure its not a hybrid?

nice plant, but as Catwalker and Isurus already said, this seems to be a hybrid. General shape, lobes and color patern of labellum, and spots onpetals and sepals do not really match with C. dowiana.

Gorgeous whether hybrid or not. I really like the colouring.
