Hi FT,

No, it is not rare. I couldn't get near to even breath on a rare orchid if I tried My Laelia Amoena came from the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate where they have MANY beautiful orchids. Probably more then I have ever seen in my life.
My Laelia's including that one like it on the warm side. Enjoy living in rocks and never need to be repotted. (if in rocks)
Over at SBOE they grow most of their plants outside which is one of the really nice things about being in California.
Here is a link to their website Santa Barbara Orchid Estate Home Page
Just log in an look for the Laelia section.
I don't think their shopping cart system for online orders works yet, but they will take orders over the phone.

As far as venders goes, they are Top Notch. I wouldn't buy a Laelia from anyone else in the world.

I love how some blooms do that . My Cochleanthes aromatica 'Magnifica' opens with straightish flatish dorsal sepal and petals but then after some time they fold back or curl over backwards at the top leaving the lip and lateral sepals at the front dominating the display

I'm a beginner....I'm in Canada...not sure if they ship to Canada? Also, is Laelia Amoena the full name of your beautiful orchid?
Thank you very much for the info.

Hi FT,

In answer to your question I believe the full name would be Laelia Amoena var. coerulea.

Also, from looking at their website I do believe they do in fact ship to Canada.

"We obtain a PHYTO and a CITES* permit for a fee. Plants are shipped bare-root due to a new oak root fungus restriction. Please order for shipment during the warmer seasons! We generally ship 2-day FedEx, but plants may be held longer in customs; anticipate higher shipping than quoted for the states." (SBOE shipping policies)

I hope that helps

Hi Damian,

Nope, no fragrance! I stuck my nose right it in it. It didn't smell like anything but that's ok too I guess hehe.
