Need help caring for Slc Hazel Boyd 'apricot glow' Female
Smile Need help caring for Slc Hazel Boyd 'apricot glow'

I recently purchased a Sophrolaeliocattleya Hazel Boyd 'apricot glow'. From what I was able to find out from the internet, this beauty needs to dry out between waterings, 50%-60% humidity, bright indirect light, and cool to intermdiate temperatures. I also came across a reference to this chid as Cattlianthe. Has it been reclassified? Can anyone explain this? Also, does anyone have this chid? Are there any growing tips you an share? Thanks for the input!

The reason that it is now a Cattlianthe is that Brazilian Laelias and Sophrontis have been transfered to Cattelya. Also one of its grandparents Cattleya aurantiaca has been transfered to Guarianthe.

I don't have the grex Hazel Boyd. I do have one of its parents Cattlianthe Jewel Box. I grow it in S/H so it does not dry out at all ever. During the late Spring to early Fall I keep it outside under trees then the rest of the time it in a shaded South window.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ted, that does explain the different naming. I usually put all my chids outside in my screen porch for the summer, so I think this one should do well with my other chids.

It should no fine under those conditions. One thing that I should add is if it is growing in somehing other than S/H medium then it should dry out between waterings.
