Thank you everyone.

Carl. Wait until you get your magazine.

P&S. In describing the fragrance, it's almost easier to say what the scent is not. It's not powerful. It's not astringent or medicinal. It's not overly sweet, or fruity herbal or earthy.

I would best describe it as very lightly sweet & very refreshing.

Cj. Thank you for the offer. We have Pendentive & its offspring, however, I do not use them in C walkeriana breeding.

You should see about getting an AM after the name. It sure deserves one.

I dunno if pendentive is involved in my plant's background. The parents are both 4N ('Bette' AM/AOC x 'Laina' AM/AOC). The line is a little old and australian, so i don't really have familiarity with the foundation clones in alba breeding there.

Leisurely.
None of the walkerianas I've posted have ever been shown in the US for judging. Everyone is having Christmas parties during our December blooming period. Then I'm at the Japan show during the 2nd blooming period in late winter/early spring. So I don't take them to judging sessions in the US.

The standards for walkerianas are VERY stringent in Japan. Many of our plants are being grown there by hobbyists and many have received high awards.

Cj.
If your plant's origins are from Australia, it's probably the Pendentive line. The offspring have a very distinct appearance. I don't know who 'Bette' is. Is it possibly Betty? The original 'Laina' was from Hawaii's Orchid Center; however it was not 4N. Pendentive clones & offspring went over there from the 1980's until 1990's. Pendentive has been cloned numerous times and there are many 4N plants.

Most people today don't know what the original looked like.

Default walkeriana Alba 'bette'

Hi Cattwalker / Cj

the clone 'bette' was from a gentleman here in australia by the name of david littman, and this clone was indeed imported in the early 90's for richard takafuji at hawaii's orchid centre nursery. David imported mant plants (including many walkeriana Alba's) in the 90's and the clone 'bette' is named after his wife. There were also several other clones he brought in, have a look at some of the other one's at this website
