There is a picture of my now blooming Cattleya rex. The lip is not yeat quite open, but soon it will be.
The scent is very good and of course i like her trademark ... superb colored lip.

Well done! I've been wanting to try one for some time now, but have read they can be tricky. Any pointers or thoughts you could share?

I do not give any special care to my Cattleya rex plants (i have seven). My treatment is the same to all my cattleyas. I start watering in spring slowly when the new growth comes in sight. Little by little i expose them to quite high light, between waterings i let the compost dry almost completely. I never use tapwater.
In my greenhouse the temperature is daytime in summer + 22-28 C and nights about +16-18 C.
I fertilize my cattleyas twice in a month with normal orchid fertilizer.

Normally Cattleya rex starts blooming practically right after finished the growth. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit longer.
After blooming i give my Cattleya rex complete rest in good light but no water at all. Temperature in rest time is +15-18 C.
The dormant period last about 4-5 months.
Good luck to everyone
