C. loddigesii x C. violacea
It is a lovely primary cross.
I especially like the lips.

Very nice, Pheli. Is it as easy to grow and bloom as loddigesii, or does it take after the more finicky violacea parent?

Steve, I don't have this plant. The photo was taken at an orchid show.
I saw some seedlings of this cross at a nursery. They look like easy plants to grow.

This is Cattleya Alberta Reg 1.1.1900....or this is Cattleya Breautiana Reg 1.1.1897.....or this is Cattleya Lord Marsham Reg 1.1.1900....take your pick, they are all valid names by the RHS.

Sort of correct. The grex is registered under all three names, but Breautiana is clearly the accepted name and the other two are retained as synonyms (and clearly identified as such) for historical reasons.
The really amazing thing to me is that the wonderful shape of loddigesii can be so damaged by violacea in one generation. I'd like to see a lot of pictures of the grex to see if this is uniform or whether there are some well shaped clones.
If you want to see a real registrar screw up look at Lycaste Yoko's Sister which has two different names neither of which is listed as a synonym.

very nice!
The correct name is Cattleya Breautiana. The two other names are synonyms... I mean, using Alberta or Lord Marsham is not completely wrong as they are accepted as synonym, but the Breautiana has priority and is the name that should be used...

As per the shape of the flower, it seems that C. violacea has some dominance over C. loddigesii (but not 100% as the lip is not really C. violacea). I have seen several plants of this grex (if I recall it correctly, from different crosses) in southamerica and they were very homogeneous in form

hehe I need to review my notes... there is some worst cases, where after the changes in laelinae you have 3 or 4 hybrids registered (now) under Cattleya and with the same grex... however the parents are all different including (old) laelias, Sophronitis and Cattleyas... If I find it I will post it here...

Thanks for the information.
Now, I can call it C. Breautiana.

Well done, nothing like getting the correct name for a plant.

Pheli. do you remember the size of the pot in which this plant was growing? I just received one that I ordered. It is growing in a 2 1/2" pot, it is about 5" tall and was said to be blooming size. I am trying to determine if it really is big enough to bloom.
