Default Cattleya Hardyana 'Coruja'

This is one of my purple Hardyanas. Unfortunately, this year the flowers are pooly colored, with large whitish areas and also, for the first time, lacking their most interesting characteristic, a second, purple 'eye', inside the normal yellow 'eyes'. The third photo shows last year's bloom for a comparison.

I would say the flowers are gorgeous looking... but last years were certainly better.

Do you have any idea what has changed and caused this?

Mauro, is it possible that C. dowiana is responsible for the color variations? I've read that dowiana has a habit of producing variations in its color (mostly in the amount of red color, and the gold veining pattern in the lip) from one flowering season to the next. Perhaps C. Hardyana has inherited this trait. Regardless of the changes you've noticed, those blooms are still quite beautiful.

I agree, Steve, I am sure dowiana is responsible for those variations!

Mauro

Thanks for posting.

I keep returning to view this clone and 'Parity'. It is fortunate that you were successful in capturing that photo last year. It seems that this year it is a new fashion show.

My pleasure, Sun. The two you mention are really beautiful Hardyanas. 'Paraty' is unique with its dark dowiana lip...

I agree, the flower is not quite up to last years standards but still it's very beautiful.
