Default The nodosa family...

These beauties are currently smelling up my whole greenhouse and my entire living room (and most of the house). The larger one, on the interesting piece of wood, is the infamous B. nodosa....which I'm sure needs no introduction. The flowers are pretty big this year, I think the plant is finally reaching specimen size. The smaller plant, with the smaller flowers, is B. Little Stars (nodosa x subulifolia)....another wonderful smelling dependable bloomer. The nodosa still has quite a few blooms left to open, but this may be the only chance I get to take pictures. When they are both in the greenhouse, you smell them the second you open the door (which is about 25' from where they hang). The air is so thick with the smell, it's like a "fragrance cloud"!

Jasen, Oh how I wish I could poke my nose into your ghse........Heavenly.

I've seen this photo posted before. I saved it and keep going back to have another look.

Last Sunday I wandered through my Son's ghse. One of the things he is growing just now is 15,000 Poinsettia plants. What a beautiful sight. I went home with a beautiful dark red one, 1 large deep pink Christmas Cactus, (6" pot) and 3 small ones (3" pots), 1 white, 1 orange, and 1 pale pink one which I can group together in a basket.

That ghs was built and operated by my Father-in law, around 1940, then it went to my Husband and I, now my Son owns it, and 2 of his Sons are preparing to take over in a few years. I guess that is what one would call a 'family business'.

Oops, I got carried away, your nodosa family is beautiful.

Marilyn

Jason! When I saw those thumbnails my first reaction was that you had all those plants! But I have to agree on the fragrance. Even a single flower can take over a kitchen at night. A display like yours must be totally above and beyond! One day my plants will get that big. My mini nodosa (Mickey Mouse) is at the point it blooms like yours in the spring, but all the others are at 1st bloom seedling stage. Great photos and thanks for sharing.

Nice job, Jasen. It's cool to see nodosa next to Little Stars for the size comparison. Petals and sepals look greener too.

A little bit greener, yes. They are quite the dynamic duo. I keep one in the greenhouse, and the other in the house....the whole place smells great!

This is something I like from any orchid, if they are fraganceless then something is lost in the set.
Congratulations for such beauty and healthy plants.

The nodosa's are one of my favorites also and their scents are the best I've had the pleasure of!

These are fantastic. I could only imagine how beautiful the aromas are at your place.

Wow, this plant never ceases to amaze me. It has bloomed (non-stop) since I took these pictures. I am speaking about the nodosa. I just searched this thread to see the date on it, and it's been longer than I thought. It has bloomed constantly since November, and is still producing blooms. From the time I took these pics, it has maintained at least two flowers at all times.....that's over half the year! Like I said before, I love this family!
