First class semi-alba hybrid! Though only awarded a few years ago, here in Brazil it has been considered one of the best semi-albas since its first appearance in the 80's.

I love it. I especially like the white fringe. It add so much to the beauty of the bloom.

Superb semi-alba! I share your weakness for them, Mauro.

Lc. Sheila Lauterbach 'Equilab' FCC/AOS is one of my favorite hybrid orchids. Excellent foto, Mauro -- Thank you!

Did Silva grow this particular cultivar , 'Equilab'? I read that Rolf Altenburg of Florália was also involved. My Spanish and Portuguese translations are not good; the story is confusing.

Was Silva known for other contributions to the orchid world?

Waldemar Silva registered more than one hundred hybrids in the Cattleya Alliance, Stitz. His creations didn't become so famous as those of Rolf Altenburg, but at least two are very well known, Lc. Sheila Lauterbach and C. Julio Conceição. Waldemar Silva lived in Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro, and when he moved to Campinas in São Paulo he sold his orchids to Rolf Altenburg, but not Lc. Sheila Lauterbach. He brought it with him to Campinas and there Ademar Manarini, owner of the nursery Equilab at that time, cloned the plant. To my knowledge, Rolf Altenburg has nothing to see with Lc. Sheila Lauterbach.

Thank you, Mauro.

In addition to growing orchids, I love to learn more about the history of well-known plants and the people.
