Laelia purpurata var. vinicolor

This plant belonged to a late orchid collector who was very skilled with purpuratas. He had one of the best collections at the time (80's). This plant was originally labeled var. telha, a really rare, beautiful coloration similar to the brick orange. But some mess must have occurred with the labels because what flowered is this beautiful vinicolor, but not the telha I was expecting.

Yes, it is beautiful. With all the forms I am seeing I think I need to study purpuratas more. Can you suggest any good books that break out the different forms of purpurata?

That is a very deep wine red lip. Very nice!

Wow, I thought I liked the previous purpurata you posted a lot (and I do) but this one is even nicer.

A good book is: Laelia Purpurata, by L.C.Menezes, Rio de Janeiro - Editora Expressão e Cultura, 1995.
Lou Menezes dedicates the book to discuss L. purpurata and its varieties. Unfortunately, it is written only in Portuguese.
To note that this book was not enough for all the good varieties she intended to show and I just learnt last week that she has just released a new one (I don't have it yet!).
