Hi There.. here is a question for you. I have this Iwanagara 'Apple Blossom' in a 6 inch pot which I purchased 7/22/08. In Oct. of 08 3 sheaths started by 12/08 nothing was swelling then 2 started swelling and the 3rd turned brown. Now there are 2 new sheaths showing. My question is just how long does it take for these sheaths to bloom? Did moving it from the house to the GH set them back? I have just moved them back into the house for the winter will that set them back or do these beauties just take their own time to bloom?
I check them everyday and they just seem to sit there... :yawn
I don't know how long it will take to flower. I have a very large 'Apple Blossom' and it seems to have sheaths forever!! Months and months. But when it blooms, it also blooms for months and months.
I guess because there is so many different sheaths producing flowers at different times. It puts on quite a show and smells so good.
Iwanagara Apple Blossom seems to be a winter to spring bloomer. Usually with cattleya hybrids when the sheath starts to swell and then stops it is an indication that the spike has blasted.
Sometimes my cattleyas put out false sheaths that never turn into anything...
I usually wait a few months and then open the sheath to see if there is anything happening in there...
Usually it is just empty...
