Default Laelia purpurata var. rosea Regel

Here's another nicely flowered L. purpurata. To mention that this kind of purpurata (having lavender/pink sepals and petals) are commonly referred to as type, but this is not according to the literature. Lindley doesn't mention the color in his description of the type, but plate 96 in Paxton's Flower Garden (1852/3), following the description, leave no doubt that Laelia purpurata type has petals and sepals white, lip deep purple (what we commonly refer to as semi-alba). The flower with petals and sepals lavender, or light pink was later described by Eduard A.Von Regel (Lindenia, 1872) as variety rosea.
The photo of the entire plant is not that good, a little washed, but serves to have an idea of the plant and flowers.

I really really love that one

The colour is fantastic with such a great contrast to the white of the petals/sepals.

Beautiful form and color. So the type form of this species was a semi alba?

It is a beauty, isn't it, Rosie?

That's it, Ted! Btw, because the type is a semi-alba, the concept of semi-alba does not exist in Laelia purpurata!

Really beautiful Mauro!

I'm still not having any luck getting my L. purpurata var. carnea to bloom although its put out 3 large pseudobulbs (and has 2 more new growths) since I've had it.

I have it right next to my C. jenmanii which is finally in bud. Does the L. purpurata need more light?

Thanks for any help, Mauro.

Dear Mauro, stop please. I don't have room for purpuratas.

Thanks.

Actually not, Bingo! If you can grow and flower C. jenmanii then you can grow and flower L. purpurata for sure!
Can you tell me if your p-bulbs have a green sheath?

Not only lovely flowers, but good photos too. I like especially the shadows and light from the petals and leaves.

Indeed in the first photo the light is a little bit too bright, but the beauty makes you forget about it.
