Default Unifoliate vs. Bifoliate, or in between?!

Hi everybody!

I was wondering how one would classify a hybrid cattleya that produces growths that have either one leaf, or sometimes two to three leaves. I have a few plants that do this, and produce anywhere from one to three leaves on any given growth before flowering. The genetic heritage of a hybrid is certainly the cause, but under which classification would it fall?

I have a couple that do the same thing. More than one leaf indicates bi-foliate somewhere in it's ancestry. I'm not sure, but bifoliate would be my guess, unless there is such a thing as multifoliate. (Big shrug)

Very interesting, Jan. Thanks. I had never really given it much thought until Elliot brought it up.
