Default Laelia purpurata var. estriata-vinicolor

Here's another L.purpurata, this time a vinicolor variety that also has stripes of the same color on the petals. All the plants I've seen of this variety are are more or less poor shaped.

For all the poor shape, Mauro, I think you must send it to me because just think what will happen to all the well shaped orchids in your collection.... hundreds of malformed flowers .... doesn't the thought just make you sick!!!!! Oh where's the bathroom.........

The colour is gorgeous. I'm not sure I can see what you mean about poor shape on this one, it looks wonderful to my inexpert eye.

Rosie, the petals are too twisted, especially at the tips, and the sepals fold the sides back forming straws! I'm still looking for a good plant of this color variety (having stripes on the petals) but it has not been easy!

I love this variety; with Carnea, roxo-violeta, Ardosia, Laelia tenebrosa vinicolor and Laelia lobata tipo, this 6 ones are on the top of "prettiness" in all my top 10 of "laelias" favorites
Jan, vinicolors with white sepals and petals have better formed flowers than the vinicolor striatas. Last year I saw 25-30 plants of this variety in bloom, all of them presenting twisted flowers!

wow! theyre all gorgeous!
btw: hi guys, niew here...
i had a purpurata for about five years. no bloom. nearly killed by too much sun. anyway, it finally bloome last june! one gorgeous fragretn flower. long slender white petals w ruffles, deep purple lip. i put it in our inside lobby for neighbors to enjoy. alas, after two weeks out, someone stole it. i'm still devistated and have been searching for a replacement but no luck on ebay. got a bare root in santa barbara and it died. does anyone know where i can get one? or perhaps a generous member would share a division? i think it might have been werkerhauseri, or vanicolor....thanks!
