Cattleya violacea
My climate is problematic for this species, but I've been trying it anyway, because the flower is awesome to me. Adult plants definitely have big trouble to adapt and in general die after a few years or don't develop satisfactory, but small seedlings seem to do better. This is the first to be in bloom of a bunch I acquired times ago!!

It's a beauty, Mauro. What characteristics of your climate does this species not like, or have trouble adapting to? If you buy the plants as seedlings in your area, do they grow up to be long-lived adults, or does decline also?

Temperatures from May throught September are too low, especially at night, for the species, combined with very low air humidity. Plants raised since they were very small seedlings grew up to be adult plants and and don't show any signs of decline so far. I'll have to wait a couple of years more to see whether they are perfectly adapted or not. I believe they are!

Great shape on that one Mauro. I'm really happy these are growing and blooming for you. They are hands down the best catt species there is.

Wonderful colour and shape. I can see why you keep trying with it.

The form, especially that lip, is exquisite. That color, just incredibly beautiful. I want to come to Brazil and visit you and your orchids, Mauro.

Mauro, that's a nice C. violacea... I am currently doing the same as you I am growing a seedling of this (my favorite Cattleya) in order to have it better adapted to my conditions (even though I can provide warmer temps in winter, my main problem is light!)

I've been successful in adapting seedlings, Ramon. Light is no problem here as you know, a little bit warmer temps during the day I can achieve by enclosing the shade house, but nights are the true problem!
How's yours adapting?
