This is a seldom seen Encyclia species native to the Amazon forest, in the areas known as Campinaramas, which are open areas in the middle of the jungle. These natural open areas have very sparse trees thus allowing the sun to penetrate deep in the jungle favoring the occurrence of orchids. The plant is not excessive large (50cm tall), has strap-like leaves that resemble those of Cymbidium and thin, pyriform p-bulbs. The flowers are fragrant.
In the wild, the floral stems keep upright (for some reason mine curved down). It is also known as Encyclia tarumana, a synonym.
