Default Cattleya kerrii

This is Brazilian species found in the southeast region of Bahia. The plant has some singular traits , it is mostly unifoliate (occasionally it can be bifoliate, especially while young), but the flower is characteristic of the bifoliate Cattleyas, the stems are very thin and curve down under the weight of the leaf when the plant is a little higher. The size of adult plants varies from 6 cm until 15-18 cm in height. I have never seen more than one flower on the floral stem, but reports say that up to three can be born. The central lobe of the lip and the column tip form a square angle not seen in any other species of the alliance. A few varieties are known, like punctata, rubra and caerulea. Never heard of an alba.

Anyone here ever had success in growing Kerrii in semi hydro? I was able to get a hold of one but unfurtnately the roots were rotten because the medium used was sphagnum moss. I removed the plant from the sphag and transplanted it to semi hydro. I have 1 new growth but the rest of the plant seems to be drying up. I'm letting it be as this is what I consider it's last hope. I'm just currious as wether someone was ever successful in growing them in semi hydro knowing that the roots of the kerrii cannot withstand too much water. Will the roots adapt to semi hydro? Or never at all?

Thats fantastic! I love these colours on Catts. Great and unique lip/column, thanks for pointing that out.

Really lovely. The species is seldom grown here. Most plants sold here are form Japanese nurseries.
