Default Sc. Dream Catcher

I'm posting this because it was handy - I've been working with my camera, trying to become more familiar with some of its capabilities and this is one of the results. This small plant (less than six inches) is a prolific grower, blooms off every new growth, is in bloom most of the time and produces flowers that are very large for the size of the plant. Because it's always in bloom it seems to be the plant I practice on with my camera most of the time.

Hi Swamper,
I'm trying to learn how to shoot on manual as well as experimenting with white balance settings, flash, metering modes and stuff like that. I really need to take a course, but can't find either the time of money at the moment.

I hear you. I've been using nothing but manual lately and really am loving it. That class I started only lasted one day. The teacher never showed up anymore. What a bummer, I have to wait till next semester. I just got a new book called Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson and I am learning from that for now.

I'm learning from on-line lessons provided by Canon and they are helpful, but a class would be even more so, I think.

Hey Ron, we are all in the same boat when it comes to digital. I have never used a camera in anything but manual mode. This is because my first "real" camera (don't all you other camera people get your nose out of joint) was a very long time ago Nikon F series, then the F2, which I used up to about 2 1/2 years ago, when I really wanted instantaneous gratification so I went digital. I've never used it in auto mode. But things are different with digital with white balance, exposure, etc. These cameras have so many options that it becomes mind-boggling... and if you don't use a particular feature frequently, you forget how to use it... well maybe that's because my brain is getting super old????? For me learning is practice, practic.... and more practice

Now about your flower.... just perfect!

Hey friend,
That's exactly the way I feel. I used a manual Minolta film camera for 30 years and it was like a part of me. Now I've gone digital and am overwhelmed by the multitude of options. Have had my camera for four years and still don't feel I'm using it to its full potential. And, like you, if i don't use something regularly I've got to go look it up again.
