Everyone must have experienced this, you ordered a plant online, it arrived with one or two damaged leaves, it still serves its function, but the scars are not very pleasing to the eyes. Eventually it will turn into a back bulb and the nutrition will go to the new growth, so for the plant's sake, just wait might be a better option. But you may have to look at that scarred leaf for many years...So what do you do? Prune it or leave it?

If the plant is healthy & strong and has enough other shoots, I cut off damaged leaves. No problem.

I'll side with Stefano on this one. If the leaf is still serving a purpose, then I leave it. May be ugly to look at, but I just turn the plant to hide the damaged bits.

i have my Giant many growth Blc. drumbeat heritage and it got battle scars. from a sun burn and a couple of leafs cracked. i cut them rarely. i only cut it once and that was because of the way the buds developed. if it has enough growths you can cut it but i think it adds Character!

I see. Actually, orchids are really tough warriors About 2 months ago, my binds fell off and hit my dends and one of them has a leaf severely damaged. Most part of the leaf kind of dangled a little bit, but it's still attached with a big crack orthogonal to the center line of the leaf. I didn't cut the leaf, just held it in place with a rubber band, since the plant was very weak and does not have a lot of leaves to begin with. About 2 weeks later, that leaf magically recovered with a scar, but is firm to the touch. And now after 2 month, it did not turn yellow. The scar is almost from one edge to the other, I don't even know how that leaf transport nutritions, but it did! So I guess I''ll keep the scars then, since most of my plants are seedlings, they can use everything they have to grow faster.

Unles it has a lot of growths I would leave anything that is green alone. And even with a lot of growths I would leave it unless it was going to a showand would hurt scoring

I am sorely tempted to cut, but I don't because if the leaf is green it is feeding the plant and I don't want to cut off its food supply. Yes, it looks terrible, no I don't cut.

I see that everybody love their chid's so much that you value the health and well being of the plants more than the look. What a good lesson

if a loved partner got a scar on their arm would you cut it off or get a new partner?
beauty contests are not everything.

leaves photosynthetize even when scarred.

if it was rotted or had fungus that would be a different matter
