My friend got a 6-pack of seedlings at Stewart Orchids 'going out of business' sale a few years back. They may have made this cross - and it must have seemed like a good idea at the time. No matter which parent the flower favored, it would be beautiful, and would certainly have a sensational fragrance. B. cucullata x Rhyn. digbyana.
Mine finally flowered, and my pal liked it so much I gave it back to her. IMO, not as pretty as either parent, and there is absolutely not the faintest hit of a scent, never, not day or night or anytime between. No redeeming qualities. Truly tragic.
Regards - Nancy

It's truly old, Nancy. Cross was made back in the 30's! Still grown by a lot of hobbyist though. There was even a couple awarded in the early 2000's if you can believe it!! The flowers can be really huge sometimes which may be it's one redeeming quality.

Well Jerry, as a fan of the miniatures, I believe that bigger isn't always better.
The flower resembles a cucullata on steriods.
I know about 6 people that are growing it (from the 6-pack)...:-)
It is too bad about this flower. Disappointing!
Well, let me go back to my stuff *with* scent.
Cheers - Nancy

Looks like you got a pretty bad clone. Some of these are amazing. Something, weird about the shape of yours.
