Encyclia pauciflora, a mini Ency species

This is perfect for those who have not much available space and love this Alliance. The plants are short, 15-16 cm high, and very compact (the plant in the photo is in an 8 cm pot). The 3.8 - 4 cm flowers can be considered large if you take into account the plant size. The flat, showy lip is 1.5 cm across. And, extra bonus, they are strongly fragrant!

Oooh, I like that lip. I've not really looked much at Encyclia, but I've really liked the few I've seen. This one is wonderful.

Mauro, you have very well grown plants. What are your general growing conditions for your encyclias? How much do you water, % sunlight and what do you use for medium? I have several Brazilian encyclias and most do very good, but others don't do as good.

Mauro, that's a very nice looking plant; the blooms look beautiful also. I only have two encyclia species (alata and phoenicea), both of which are big plants. It's nice to see that the genus also has small plants that are probably a lot more convenient to grow than the two I have. I might look and see if I can find one of these. I try to give them bright light the year round, but not direct sunlight. From May through September, when the sun is deeply inclined, the cover cuts 50%; from October on I put some extra shade clothes to cut 65-70% of the light intensity. In the winter I water two or three times a week and the rest of the year every other day. I use clay pots and sphagnum for them.
