It is a famous primary hybrid and also a good parent to create new hybrids.

Very nice, Pheli. What are the two species that make up this hybrid? Does the "glossa" part of the name come from C. amethystoglossa? The lip on your flowers looks like amethystoglossas. Any fragrance?

Steve, C. Interglossa is the cross between C. amethystoglossa and C. intermedia.
The blooms are slightly fragrant.
It is interesting that both parents bloom in spring, but its cross blooms in autumn regularly.

Thanks, Pheli. That is interesting about the hybrid blooming when neither parent does. I have several C. amethystoglossa, but no intermedia plants (had one years ago, but now I can't recall what happened to it--which is probably a sign of getting old!). I really like the way your plant's blooms look, especially the vibrantly colored lip.

Steve, I like both its parents. I have more than 20 plants of C. intermedia but have only one C. amethystoglossa. C. amethystoglossa is a pretty species but however it does not grow well here.
As for C. Interglossa, I have two plants but there are few people growing it here.

I wonder why amethystoglossa doesn't grow well in Taiwan. Do you have any idea? It has the reputation for being one of the more temperamental cattleya species, but in my experience it's an easy plant to grow and bloom. Warm/hot and wet summers with lots of light, followed by cool and relatively dry winters are what I give mine. Maybe I'll try another intermedia. I have read that it's considered one of the most adaptable of the bifoliate species. Thanks again for your feedback, Pheli!

Steve, C. amethystoglossa does grow and flower well in south Taiwan. I am located in north coast area of this island, and the winter is usually cloudy and windy. Some orchids needing bright or warm winter dislike the climate here. I am now planing to built a simple green house. It may solve some troubles.
