This is one of the best Catt hybrids out there. I almost killed this one recently due to negligence and forgetting about this one in a jungly area of my growing spot and it got over watered by accident. Anyway, its the first bloom since the mishap and it seems to be going well.

Beautiful blooms! I was admiring your other photos too. They're all stunning. Are all your chids grown outdoors and do you have any photos (wide shots) of your growing space?

I do grow all my guys outdoors under the shade of various types of trees. I don't actually have any wide shots of my grow areas. I have 3 areas, one is hot and sunny (front yard near hot pavement with minimal protection from the sun), one is cool and shady (under a mango tree) and one is warm, sunny and bright but not too hot.

That is great looking. What are all the parents up to the species? does it have guttata or amethystoglossa in the parentage? Sometimes I have a hard time finding the genealogy of a hybrid

Hey Stefano,
Honestly, I dont know the parentage of C. Lulu. Since I bought a mac, my OW doesnt work so I cant look it up. I really miss that plant. It had the most vividly pink flowers I had ever seen. Ever. I had to sell it when I moved to Texas. Grrrr, I should have kept it.

I have heard of it but haven't seen the really blooms of it. Several years ago, it was a good parent to breed new spot cattleyas. But it is seldom sold recently.

Here’s a geneology for C. Lulu.
C. loddigesii x aclandiae = C Brabantiae.
C. Summer Snow x guttata = C Penny Kuroda
C Lulu = C Penny Kuroda x C Brabantiae
The diminutive plant size & red spots are largely from C aclandiae. The pink petals & sepals, largely from a pink type C loddigesii. The wide, dark pink/red lip from everywhere. The nice fragrance mainly from C aclandiae, tempering the not as nice fragrance of C guttata.
There are different looks to C Lulu. They are usually pink/lavender, with nice wide, dark pink lips. Some have red spots, some do not.
C. Lulu breeds on fairly nicely. But if you want spots, you may as well start with C Brabantiae or C aclandiae, instead of mixing in all the rest. You’d get better spots by that route.
