Default Cattleya lueddemanniana var. caerulea

This is a well-known species from Venezuela, deliciously fragrant, here in the blue version.

Lovely blooms, Mauro. Great growing.

I have a C. lueddemanniana and also a C. dowiana v. rosita that along with my L. purpurata v. carnea ( or should that now be C. purpurata) that just sits and takes up space. Do they need lots more light than my catt hybrids? The leaves are light green, each has at least one new growth and lots of happy roots Any tips (short of relocating to Brazil) on growing/blooming them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

bingo

Bingo, the three species you mention are all light lovers. I grow them in very bright light the year round, specially dowiana and lueddemanniana. Maybe you're not getting flowers due to low light level?

That's what I'm worried about. I have them growing under a bank of 6 T8's in front of a large Eastern exposure picture window. I keep the T8s on for 14 hours/day.
I've not measured how much light they actually get so I guess that should be my next step before I give up and switch to T5s

Thanks,

bingo

Hey Mauro, I think you've been out in the hot sun tending the chids just a bit too long and your color vision is playing tricks on you. That flower looks more lavender/purple to me...definitely NOT blue! You know, I know a great doc who could help cure you of this problem by taking a trip down to São Paulo and releaving you of some of those nasty chids. Then you'd have more time to rest and relax and you wouldn't see strange colors....what do you say??? Great idea?????

And would that Doctor be a Bikerdoc by any chance?
Now, I have to get me a giant Mariachi hat to protect against the sun and avoid having those color misperceptions!! That way you don't have to spend any money to come down here and help me with some of my orchids!!!!
