It's all right here: http://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/plant_g...rchidgenus.pdf

Acutally, I was mistaken. Thaitesara = Cattleya + Guarianthe + Rhyncholaelia + Sophronitis

The hybrids in question are (using the most recent nomenclature):

Rhyncattleanthe or Rth. Twentyfour Carat (Rhyncholaelia + Cattleya + Guarianthe)
x
Rhyncholaeliocattleya or Rlc. His Light (Rhyncholaelia + Cattleya)

...so, Rth. + Rlc. = Rth. (still just the same three genera: Rl. + C. + Gur.)

I understood that the (unregistered) intergeneric hybrid in question is Pot. (BLC His Light 'Praise' x Pot. Free Spirit 'Carmela') 'Gold Digger'

Blc His Light = (Blc Makaha Gold x Blc Daybreak)
Pot Free Spirit = (Pot Twentyfour Carat x Sc Beaufort)

These name changes may be appropriate for the new/younger orchid enthusiasts that are just getting into the hobby, but it's wreaking havoc on the 55-65+ year olds that will (probably) always refer to purpurata as Laelia purpurata rather than its new name Sophronitis purpurata.

The new names may take hold as more people accept the terminology.

This is not to say that I will never accept the new names; rather, that I agree with the well-known, highly respected (Cattleya Alliance) hybridizer who refuses to change / rename 100+ years of history.
