Cattleya percivaliana var. caerulea

From year to year, it is noticeable how variable some percivalianas are, as to the form. A quick look at the photo below shows what I am saying. Both flowers are exactly the same. Some other clones, like semi-albas 'Farah Diba' and 'Jewel', seem to do the same thing. A friend suggested that percivalianas show their full genetic potential when dehydrated, showing then their best form and lasting longer than when in good health. It seems a bit contradictory to me. Although I know that in their natural habitats the plants can pass through a period of drought (is that right, Jan?), this is normal with so many other orchids and drought do not affect them so drastically.

I see what you mean by the differences Mauro. It's a very good looking Catt! I was unaware that there was a coerulean variety of percivliana. Gonna have to put it on my must have list!!!

goodness, what a difference, its huge!! I guess torture it a little mauro, certainly seems to improve the bloom quality!

wow... I love 2008 with the lip of 2009... it's a pitty the shape lost so much... is it a response to different growing conditions between both years?

Ramón, the only difference is that in 2008 the plant was dehydrated and almost rootless (2008 photo shows dehydrated p-bulbs), while in 2009 the plant had recovered turgidity and a healthy root system.
