Epi Hybrid
Epi Hybrid 1 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Epi Hybrid 2 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
This is a nice little unnamed Epi cross. If anyone wants the name of the parents, I can post them, but Im feeling lazy and dont want to go look it up at this moment! Its got an unusual scent that is mild and pleasant. Enjoy!

Very pretty, Steve! I love the coloring! Is it a large grower? If it's small-to-compact, I might be interested in finding out what the cross is. But I'm in no rush. Specially if it's a big'un.

Its actually a small'un! The cross is Yam. Queen Adelia x Epi. Cindy. DSCF1345 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! is a picture of the plant. I would say that it is filling up 1/4 of its ~3.5" pot. There are actually 2 plants in this pot and that is the reason that the pot looks a little crowded in the picture. When seen from above, both of the 2 plants occupy half the pot. This critter stays very compact and has almost no space between its 2" tall (?) bulbs.

Thanks for the info, Steve!! Sounds like just my size. Going to have to put it on my list.
BTW... Was there a name change recently? I'm unfamiliar with Yams (except for the yummy sweet potato kind). Is that an intergeneric?

lololol Get a load of this. So in all honesty, I have no idea what Yam was supposed to stand for. But I checked my OrchidWiz (a must have for all orchid addicts!) to see what came up with 'Queen Adelia' and I got this. Whatever Yam was, it has now become Belgeara. Belgeara is B x C x E x Gur x L x Rl x S!!!! Im assuming that my hybrid is not registered because there is no genus name yet for Belgeara x Epi. This hybrid is VERY complex!! Im glad Yvan got me off my butt and made me do a little detective work!

From your 2 photos & your mention of the scent, I figured there was Encyclia alata in the background. Alata has beautiful sweet fragrance, but it probably got thinned out by the time it reached this hybrid. Try Yamadaara for Yam. in your research.

W x O x W x Z x A!! That sure is a complex hybrid. Also, the continuous name-changing is dizzying. Still, definitely on my list now. Think I'll just refer to this guy as the Belgian sweet potato orchid.
Thanks for putting on your Sherlock, Steve!
