Grow unicum as a warm-intermediate nobile type den. Plant is deciduous and without leaves late fall to late spring in temperate climates. Even in warmer climates, any seasonal change will result in leaves dropping completely or at least partially.
Fine roots are good for mounting, not for burying. Grow warm in bright light. Feed and water liberally when plant is in active growth during summer. When leaves drop, keep canes and roots hydrated, but do not overwater. After leaves drop, plant will experience dormant period. Do not feed after leaves drop, especially when flower spikes begin to emerge directly from canes ... otherwise buds will turn into keikis and blooming will be curtailed. When buds start emerging and when flowers bloom, be sure plants are hydrated, otherwise buds and flowers will dry out.
