Yellowing rough leaves on catt.
Default Yellowing rough leaves on catt.

The leaves on both my catts are not doing so well!

One plant, the leaves are curling, yellow, and rough textured. The other has a couple leaves that are yellowing and have mushy tan areas. We did have a heat wave last week and I'm wondering if its sun damage? One one that has textured leaves, one stalk was like that when I bought it and now the other leaves are funny. The roots dont look so good one on this one but the last one I replanted died on me

Can I save these guys???

Sounds very much like I could have written this, except mine don't have any "mushy" leaves; just withering and curling after repotting in July. They are otherwise looking good with new roots and leaves. I'm thinking the new growth is using the old as "food". I'm feeding weakly weekly, keeping the humidity around 55- 60%, in an East window NOT with full sun, and Gro-lux tubes. Just wondering how come some yellowing and withering?

First question is what are the roots like. Also are there any pests on the leaves? Spider mites are very hard to see and often on the undersides.

Chiral224, yes, looks like roasted catt. Sun may have shone directly on the leaf and cooked it. Some roots might be cooked as well. Don't repot catts unless actively growing new roots. Let this one dry between waterings. Give it high humidity. Water with a kelp product to stimulate new root formation. There might be more damage that hasn't appeared yet.

I agree with estacion seca, don't re-pot unless new roots are growing, water well, but then allow to dry out. You can use a bamboo kebab skewer inserted into the media to tell if it is dry or wet down in the pot. Also kelp (seaweed) is great for getting Cattleya roots to grow. I don't like over-potting mine either as it takes too long to dry out between watering and then root rot happens.
