Default Bro sanguinea var aurea...with a twist ;)

I bought this plant, in bloom, 2 yrs ago. The salmon color was outstanding and I just HAD to have it! It took a few months of care once those blooms were gone and I did have it re-bloom...again in that gorgeous salmon color.

Advance to the past weeks here...

a few weeks back, I saw that it has two spikes growing!
Then we had 14 days of gray skies and lots and lots of rain. One of the spikes started budding and they looked very light. I was thinking maybe the lack of sunshine had something to do with the change in color...this is the set of blooms that popped up first:

Those have been in bloom for over a week and are starting to show a little wear. So...the second spike starts turning very dark and I'm thinking it's gonna blast
Thankfully, something else grabbed my attention and I left the plant alone. It bloomed today...and here's the bloom:

I bought it in salmon, I bloomed it in salmon and now I have this:

Amazing! Now that's what you call 'different'!
one plant & 2 different coloured spikes!
I wonder why it should bloom in different colours?
They are very sweet blooms and I can see why you fell in love with it! Hopefully next time round you will get the salmon colour back. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Wow, thats cool.

It's as though the light pigment has all gone to one spike and the dark pigment has all gone to the other.

What the heck?!? That has got to be the most bizarre story I've ever heard. I really wonder what happened to the salmon color! Do you have a photo of it when it was blooming in the original salmon color?

I looked through all the OB pics and couldn't find it but I'm sure I have one somewhere...unless it was part of the batch I lost when the computer crashed last year

I'll keep looking...it's bizarre! :

So you think that it may actually be the lack of light for a few weeks that caused this? It was a total guess on my part but I'd really love to find out why this happened.
