Mcp. exaltata 'Vicki Short' HCC/AOS
Here is the last of the 5 awarded plants from last Saturday's trip to the monthly AOS judging at the West Palm Beach center.
Mcp. exaltata 'Vicki Short' HCC/AOS, named after a very dear friend Vicki. This award is provisional, with an official ID being requested to make sure that the plant is properly tagged (this is fairly common, especially when a species is receiving its first quality award like this one). This is a first time blooming on a seedling I have been growing for 2 years now.
Mcp. is the abbreviation for Myremcophila, which is the new name for many of the old Schomburgkias.
Enjoy!

I had missed it that you got 5 awards at the show! Woohoo!! You rock! This one is great, and the blooms have such an unusual shape. Love the wavy look! How long is that spike?

Steve...I would say that it is fairly small...probably just a little bigger than the size of a football, including the mount that it is on.
Royal...I got this seedling from a guy who came and gave a talk to my orchid society 2 years ago. He is a grower associated with Sun Bulb, in Arcadia, Florida.

Hi Camille,
The awards were given at an AOS judging center, not at a regular show. The judging centers are set up to allow hobbyists and commercial growers an opportunity to bring their plants in for judging; they usually do it on a monthly basis.
As for the stem on this guy, it measures 83 cm.
