I cannot speak for the ones that came from St. Thomas, but the psychilis macconnelliae that we have on Anegada are all colored identically. However, interestingly, some of them have scent and some do not.
Here are some more of them in the wild: http://bvipirate.com/SpringBreak04/i...318-145951.jpg http://bvipirate.com/SpringBreak04/i...318-150040.jpg I have been told that we have 5 species of orchids in the wild on the island. Thus far, I have found only 3 of them. Here are pics of the other two: http://bvipirate.com/BVI2006-June/im...619-105431.jpg http://bvipirate.com/BVI2006-June/im...619-110357.jpg |
I just shot a few new pics (OK, my wife shot the first one). I had to move the plants out of the greenhouse to get the shots. Look at the length of these spikes! (Notice the ones over my head!)

I freely admit that I know little about orchids - but I am proud to have nursed these for six years into blooming plats. |
