New Isn't Always Better
I'm sure no one would ever guess that I am rather partial to Catts!! While I really love some of the newer things coming out, this oldie, BLC Mem Helen Brown 'Napoleon', is hard to beat. I think that the most often seen is variety 'Sweet Afton', I have always prefered this one.

Many years late here! It is now early 2019. I absolutely love Blc. Memoria Helen Brown 'Sweet Afton'.
Napolean certainly shows traces of the digbyana side of things with frilly lip. Excellent photo. Beautiful flower.
Also - I totally agree with 'new is not always better'.
Blc. Mem. Helen Brown 'Sweet Afton' is my absolute favourite. I will look for 'Napoleon' too, if it's anywhere to be found in my part of the world. It might not have made it to Australia!

Although, this one shown in the opening post looks like a mem. helen brown cultivar, but doesn't appear to be 'sweet afton'. I don't think sweet afton has the very frilly serrated bits around the lip. Or - at least the photo of the original awarded plant didn't have a very frilly lip.
The flower in the photo of this thread certainly shows traces of mem. helen brown's heritage though --- the digbyana side of things. Excellent photo though. Beautiful flower.
It will be very interesting to see if divisions of the original plant will exhibit flowers with the digbyana trait in very large sweet afton plants.
Also - I totally agree with 'new is not always better'. Blc. Mem. Helen Brown 'Sweet Afton' is my absolute favourite.

Maybe I'm confused... the origjnal poster said the photo is Blc. Memoria Helen Brown 'Napoleon'.
