Wow, what wonderful colour and shape. I can tell why it's one of your favourites.

Very unusual. It looks like it took nonresupinate habit of the encyclia.

Hey Ron --
Beautiful pictures of your orchids! Stunningly gorgeous. I'm new to the field of orchids and I noticed you have a epicattelaya. I have a cattelaya and was wondering what the difference is between epicattelaya and a cattelaya?
Thnx - Katie

It's Cattleya not Cattelaya and the difference is (1) that Cattleya is what's called a genus of plants (there are plants collected in the wild that are called Cattleyas, although some of those plants are hybridized with each other and still called Cattleyas); (2) Epicattleya is a hybrid genus between two plants, one from the genus Cattleya and another from the genus Epidendrum.

Thanks Ron! That's a huge help. And yes, I realized the minute I hit the send button that I had spelled Cattleya wrong Now I'm sure to spell it correctly every time!!!

I love the shape and color of this flower and you say its fragrant, that just added it to my wish list. What does it smell like and is it really strong or just a mild fragrance?
Thanks Melanie

Ron thank for showing Epc. Frances Dyer as I often wondered what she may look like. The reason: I have an Eplc. Frances Dyer X Enc. Bractescens 'El Purple Spring' and it is a favorite of mine because of the unusual frosty purple coloring. This year I have 7 spikes and have 60+ flowers. Here take a look...
