Cattleya percivaliana
Finally got the time to photograph this one... this is a division of a wild collected Cattleya percivaliana, which is a released specimen of the Marie Selby Botanical Garden's Living Collection. This primarily lithophytic species is endemic to Venezuela at about 1,000m to 2,000m elevation. The fragrance on this plant smells like pancakes... The blooming on this plant is a little whacky; the new growth sprouted a new growth, and both bloomed simultaneously. The flowers are not fully spread open, as the amount of flowers constricted the size, but they are fairly large and have great form...

That's a nice one Pat - thanks for sharing. I just picked up C. percivaliana var. semi-alba 'Farah Diba' at our last OSA meeting and will be looking forward to it's blooms. Is it common for C. percivaliana to push out multiple growths?

You have alot to look forward to with those semi-alba and alba forms... They have slightly smaller flowers, but they are very beautiful. I don't think multiple growths like this occasion is common, but the species tend to grow like a weed when established... it's in a semi-hydro medium, but I will repot into a larger bark mix. Hopefully it will flourish a bit more...

Pancakes, butt, musty socks, Hmmm. Sounds like a gamble to me, except for the gorgeous blooms!!!! Nice acquisition, how did you manage to get it? Were they just up for sale?

I got a small one on Ebay last year. Hopefully it will bloom next year, look half as beautiful as yours, and smell like pancakes, with maple syrup and butter on top.
