Default Encyclia ghillanyi

I love these lavender Encyclias! Encyclia ghillanyi is similar to Encyclia dichroma, but shows some differences, which Pabst considered enough to characterize a new and distinct species (as always, Kew disagree and place it as synonym!!).

Oh, thats a cool one! Is this one fragrant and does it grow in typical Encyclia conditions (ie. dry and sunny)?

Yes, Steve, this species comes from Bahia, Brazil, and likes dry and bright conditions. No perfume, unfortunately!

Gorgeous, Mauro!! I've not seen an Encyclia with such an intense lavender color. Absolutely breathtaking!

These lavender Encyclias are quite uncommon, Yvan, I mean the genus has many many species, but just a few lavenders.

Mauro,

do you know which are exactly the differences betwenn this species and dichroma? I very often do not agree with Kew Garden position regarding some species, but always try to have more info to base my disagreement... and now, I am waiting for an Encyclia ghillanyi (and one Encyclia randi) to make their way to my collection, and would like to have more information about this species...

P.S.- It was nice, seeing you have both species... (probably from the same source? )

Oh, missed this one originally! It's gorgeous.

Sorry, Ramon I can't help with your query, but thanks for bringing this thread back to the front
