I was born in America, but my Grandparents (Babcia and Dzia Dzia) were from Poland. I don't speak much Polish, and I certainly can't write in Polish either, but I do know a few basic phrases. To be playing for 6 months and working on the 3rd prelude is wonderful! Maybe after a year you will be ready for the 6th suite or Dvorak concerto (both of which I LOVE!!!). I am starting my morning listening to old recordings of Pablo Casals, which is a delightful start to the day! :-D

Yep.... I suppose after a year I would be still playing 3rd suite Don't be so optimistic about me I practise a lot (at least one hour/day), but I'm not so good
So... Miłego dnia

I am second generation American-Polish - all 4 of my grandparents were from Poland or in the regions of the Polish border ... I know very little of the language but am always willing to learn ... I would love to visit Poland someday including all the towns my grandparents resided, the salt mines and amber excavation sites ...

Why Dorothy, I never knew! Lets go sometime, I could use a vacation (to say the least!)
Ania, I think you will be just fine with the third suite! There is a book of scales and etudes by Mark Yampolsky that would probably be great for you (a bit advanced, but thats ok!), and Dotzhauer etudes as well. Personally, I HATE etudes... they usually aren't fun to practice, but they can be very helpful. Also, I'd recommend the concerto by Monn as a good start before the Haydn-C or Saint-Saens. The Monn is so beautiful, and quite fun! Time for me to practice a bit myself! :-D

Elliot, I also HATE etudes.... As a child I played a piano (for 13 years), so I know Czerny etudes by heart
Dorothy, may I ask where were your grandparents from?
Both of you are always welcomed in Poland Come, visit me I can show you many fascinating places

Hmmm, come to think of it, I have no idea where my Grandparents were from. I know that it was near Russia, because the kept changing the boarder many years ago. They always complained that they sometimes did not know what country they lived in. I shall ask my mother's cousin; I'm sure she knows more of the story! You are always welcome to visit America, Ania...! And Dorothy, if you'd like to visit me, you are invited too!
