Thats an amazing looking flower! However, this thread is posted as Epi. nocturnum and the pics are labeled as carpophorum. Is this one of those species whoe name is constantly being changed?
Steve, the correct identity is E. carpophorum. I mistakenly posted it as nocturnum. Unfortunately, once a thread is titled there's no way to change it. Sorry.
The species is correctly E. carpophorum. It is a close relative of E. nocturnum and I have seen them side by side in Guyana. In E. carpophorum you can't see the inflorescence - it is hidden by the folded leaf base. In E. nocturnum the inflorescence is always clearly visible above the terminal leaf. There are also a number of other species that have been lumped together under a "highly variable" E. nocturnum.
