I agree that many crosses can be remade, but there are some exceptions. For example, those using loddigesii/harrisonae, dowiana/aurea to name a few. We really don't know which were used. Also, some hybridizers weren't always truthful when registering their crosses. Finally, many of the well know plants were specific cultivars. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't come up with something even better when remaking a cross!
